Kentucky Teen Arrested as Terrorist for Zombie Short Story

I was over at Ain't It Cool News when I saw this link in regards to the story of a Kentucky teenager who got arrested as a terrorist for writing a short story about zombies over-running a school. Those fucking Americans are so censorship-happy and terrorist-crazy that they've lost all semblance of common sense. Land of the free indeed. I wonder how long it'll be before Robert Kirkman, Steve Niles, or George Romero get arrested as terrorists.

Oh yeah, the worst part? It was his grandparents that turned him in after discovering his story, which was an English assignment. They say the best writers write what they know. What do you think a high schooler is going to write about? Uh... could it be, oh I don't know... school, by any chance?!

Even so, police say the nature of the story makes it a felony. "Anytime you make any threat or possess matter involving a school or function it's a felony in the state of Kentucky," said Winchester Police detective Steven Caudill.

Poole disputes that he was threatening anyone.

"It didn't mention nobody who lives in Clark County, didn't mention (George Rogers Clark High School), didn't mention no principal or cops, nothing," said Poole. "Half the people at high school know me. They know I'm not that stupid, that crazy."

On Thursday, a judge raised Poole's bond from one to five thousand dollars after prosecutors requested it, citing the seriousness of the charge.

  • They say the best writers write what they know. And in this case, it would have to be zombies!

Undead lumbering terror as a metaphor for his grandparents, perhaps?

  • That's cold of those grandparents. And stupid. Unless . . .what if this kid really IS planning on unleashing zombies in his high school! This it IS a real threat!

  • With that in mind, I suddenly have faith in the American police for containing such a dangerous threat to National securtiy.

  • You know, I read about this on Friday and the only way I could deal with it was to pretend it happened in some fictional world. I mean, come on, a kid gets arrested because he wrote a story about zombies attacking a high school - and was turned in by his grandparents? Surely, only the stuff of fiction.
